How to avoid speaking fast during interviews

Speaking fast comes off as insecurity or being desperate for the job.

Another downside is that it is hard for your interviewer to comprehend you. Maybe you are nervous or shy, which is understandable, or perhaps speaking fast is your nature. However, it is important that you speak with a calm demeanor in general (not just interviews) because it implies being considerate of others to understand you with ease. It also garners your respect.

Solution: Whenever you speak, imagine you are explaining something important to an 8-year old kid in your family – like your favorite niece or nephew. Even the fastest of speakers will slow down to make a child understand. You have to CONSCIOUSLY imagine this every time you speak. It should be your default mode.

While this may sound funny, the results are magical. This won’t require practice either, but rather, a quick shift of imagination. Calmness, in any form of communication, is superpower. – No more resumes, no more job search.
